Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is known worldwide as The Pearl of the Indian Ocean, making it one of the most diverse destinations in the world. It is one of the few places where you can see both the largest land animal and the largest sea animal in the same day. Sri Lanka is full of ancient history, with several different cultures and religions living side by side, also known for a local cuisine that is more diverse and delicious than most. Elephants roam free, along with countless other animals, including the largest leopard in the world!

Sri Lanka ticks all the boxes regardless of what you're interested in. Whether it's culture, history, food, animals, or beaches, it has something for everyone to enjoy!

When to go?

Sri Lanka is an amazing, tropical island that is perfect to visit all year round if you take the local, seasonal weather patterns into consideration. Sri Lanka’s unique weather patterns means that there is always a dry season and a wet season happening at the same time in the country. With this in mind, our Sundream Travels itineraries are designed to essentially follow the sun, and give our guests the best possible experience during their time in Sri Lanka, regardless of what time of the year you decide to visit. This also allows us to adapt to migration patterns of local wildlife, meaning if you come at the right time of the year you could see the Elephant Gathering, where several hundred elephants gather at the same time!

Yala is the southwest monsoon season in the southern parts of Sri Lanka from May to October. This means we spend most of our beach time in Arugam Bay on the east coast.

Maha is the northeast monsoon season in the north eastern part of Sri Lanka, from November to April. This means we spend our beach time on the south coast of Sri Lanka.

Several local businesses do the same, shutting their doors during monsoon season and migrating to where the sun is shining.
